Beauty Redefined explores the Suicide Girl phenomenon from their start in 2001 to their websites one million unique weekly visitors today. This giant tome provides a timely look at the fascinating women who created and inhabit the SG community.

SABER : MAD SOCIETY

Born in 1976 in Glendale, California, SABER had already made his name a visual fixture in Los Angeles by the end of his teens. But it was as a 20-year-old that he completed the painting that would catapult him to the status of a global legend. His piece on the sloping bank of the Los Angeles River is nearly the size of a football field, and can be read clear as day from a satellite photo. In a famous photograph taken by his father just after it was completed SABER stands on the piece and appears as a tiny speck amid a giant blaze of color.

We all want to remain permanent, explains SABER, and in his book, SABER: MAD SOCIETY, he shows the entire scope of his efforts at permanence from oil paintings on canvas to the largest graffiti piece in the world. Alongside a wealth of photos, the monograph comes complete with colorful stories of his graffiti misadventures.

London Burners by Jete Swami

Some of the most outrageous graffiti art in the world barrels through the city of London in a blur of colour. These moving canvases and the people who create the dubs or burners are the subject of an electrifying collection of images by photographer Jete Swami. As a teenager, he hung out in sidings and soon learned to paint trains, all the while taking photos and filming his friends which he continues to do today. In revealing interviews with the photographer, these artists speak out about the joys and dangers of bombing and burning their tags, throw-ups and pieces on to London transport.

Sabe - FYS Crew : ON THE RUN

Sabe is a true master of styles. Adept on many levels, he is able to switch between advanced mechanical compositions, bubble styles, throw-ups, characters and photo-realism with ease. With a ‘paint now, think later’ attitude he mixes up these styles to suit the occasion, leaving a legacy of playful hybrids that sit left of mainstream.

Ghost : ON THE RUN

Ghost is one of the last purveyors of the New York City train-writing era. He has developed his own funky letter styles that defy convention. A mad bomber at heart, he thrashes out a few hundred throw-ups without a second thought.

Ghost is also known for his collaborations with Stussy, so why not pair this book with some Stussy products that just came in.

Graffiti Tattoo : ON THE RUN

In their quest to improve their artistic talent and earn honest livings, many graffiti writers have naturally gravitated towards other artistic endeavors. Since the 1970s, these artists have been making the leap to become muralists, fashion designers, art directors, and, as of late, tattoo artists.

ADIDAS BAGLIONE

So these Herbert Baglione X Adidas sneakers just dropped in the store. Herbert Baglione is a fine artist from Brazil who has collaborated with Upper Playground and Adidas to create this one limited edition Originals sneaker. Known for his minimalist and simplistic approach, Baglione has taken the same approach for this sneaker.

“My sneaker design expresses my personal taste in shoes. I don't like colorful tennis shoes that are full of designs or anything that I feel is more than necessary. I believe being simple ends up being more challenging,"

INVASION MAGAZINE X MONTANA

Montana and Asian graffiti magazine Invasion collaborated to created a porcelain Montana spray can.

“…as a launch of issue number 4 of the publication; a normal-sized, porcelain-glazed MTN can, decorated down to the last detail. This is a unique hand-made piece with a certificate of authenticity, in which you can see the love for graffiti and the mark.”

They only made 852 porcelain cans throughout the world, and Shelflife has gotten their hands on one of them. Check it out at the store...become one of the 852 owners of this limited edition porcelain can.

FRESH STUSSY DROP

Stussy was started in the early 1980’s by Shawn Stussy, a local surfer. It all came about when Stussy began scrawling his surname with a fat black marker over his handcrafted surfboards. And so the ‘Stussy’ logo was created. Shawn started printing his logo on tshirts and selling them out the boot of his car in Laguna Beach, California.



Shawn Stussy later became business partners with his friend Frank Sinatra and together they started to build the Stussy brand. They began producing Stussy apparel, printing Shawns signature logo onto tshirts, shorts and caps. Within four years they had expanded to Europe and opened a boutique store in New York.



Stussy became huge in the hip hop and DJ scenes. Stussy says it himself, "Everybody calls it surf wear, or urban street wear, or surf street... I don't name it, and I don't name it on purpose."



In 1996 Shawn stepped down from presidency of Stussy and sold his half of the business to Sinatra, his business partner. He decided to concentrate on his family and leave the big business world behind. In 2002 he decided to start his own brand again, calling it S/DOUBLE STUDIO.

Frank Sinatra is now running the company, and although Stussy (the brand) hasn't been seen in quite some time it is still going strong. Come in to the Shelflife Store and check out the new Stussy stock we received the other day. Its super fresh...so be quick to get your hands on this merchandise.

BANKSY RE-SCREENING

So the screening for Banksy's "Exit Through the Gift Shop" was a major success and both shows were sold out within weeks. The Labia got such a great response form the public that the shows will be repeated next week on the 13th and 14th of December.

MARRIED TO THE MOB UPDATE

Ladies, Married to the MOB is a brand created by Leah McSweeney, a juvenile delinquent, who used the money from some police-brutality to lift her fashion business off the ground. Her success has become highly respected throughout the fashion world.

In the last few months the MTTM team has been really busy. They recently collaborated with Reebok, creating their "Double Bubble Freestyle" Reebok exclusive sneaker.

Just the other day Leah, the 'Head Bitch' at the MTTM headquarters, was interviewed on Fox Business News showing the world her products and her success in the fashion world. Check it out here.
