The TATS CRU are a Bronx-based group of professional muralists. They have taken aerosol art to another level and changed many peoples perceptions of graffiti into art.
TATS CRU lead the movement to change peoples ideas of graffiti, showing the world its an art and not all vandalism. It was the Smithsonian Institutes 35th Annual Folklife Festival, where they represented New York City muralists ad their work for the institute really showed the change of peoples perceptions of graffiti. They started painting the NYC public schools and hospitals, creating a better and more colorful vibe. But it didn't stop there, the TATS CRU gave lectures at prestigious Universities such as M.I.T and University of Massachusetts and many other community based organizations.
24 years ago, three teenagers began their journey into subway graffiti, starting their artistic careers. Soon their simple bid to be recognized blew up and their art evolved into a powerful, expressive style, bringing TATS CRU to the forefront of mural art.
