Figures & Fictions: Contemporary South African Photography highlights the work of 17 South African photographers, all of whom live and work in the country and whose images were made between 2000 and 2010. Each photographer is represented by one or more projects that are linked by the depiction of people and a self-conscious engagement with South Africa's political and photographic past.
Photographs showing figures raise pertinent issues of identity: how the gaze of the camera, photographer and viewer is returned by the subject, and the balance of power which that interaction implies. The 'figure' also implies not only the human figure but also the metaphorically figurative. Photographs can be like a 'figure' of speech, composed of familiar words but containing an ambiguity between literal and figurative interpretation.

THE SHOEZEUM: A SNEAKER COLLECTOR OF NOTE
Stumbled across this post on Sneaker News today. This guy is the collector of all collectors in the world. His name? Jordan Michael Geller (I know right). He lives in San Diego and owns a 2 story warehouse of 9000 square foot, called the Shoezeum.
"Words and photos can do no justice to any visitor’s first impression of the ShoeZeum when initially entering the 2-floor 9,000 square foot warehouse. When you love sneakers like we do, there is no more overwhelming feeling than trying to figure out where to start when you’re smack in the middle of a 2,000 pair sneaker collection. Our initial tour of the premises took roughly three hours before we had made our way through every shoe, and that was just a quick walk through. The collection covers nearly every aspect and category of Nike sneakers over the entire span of the Swoosh’s almost 40 year history. There are a lot of impressive collections out there, but you’d be very hard pressed to find one anywhere that covers such a comprehensive cross section of Nike footwear."

Being the only suppliers of Montana (Spain) in South Africa we really do try to keep our ears to the ground for anything new and exciting.
The other day Nastia Voynovskaya of Hi-Fructose went to check out the Montana Colour Factory just outside of Barcelona. The outside factory walls are covered with dope character-based work by Brazillian artists Os Gemoes and Nina, refering to the company's past difficulties with plagiarism with other opposing companies and a factory fire in 2002.
Pop into the store to get your hands on some fresh Montana colours from R40...it is the best paint in TOWN!

The other day the sneaker gods payed us a little visit and left us with some real goodies. All exclusive, all rare.
The cream of the crop would be the Nike AFX Mid Recon Olive/Khaki 309040-331 sneakers. They are considered to be the holy grail by all sneaker addicts.
But that isn't all…we also got in the Nike Air Alpha Force II, the shoes of the legendary basketball player Charles Bakery. First released in 1988 and then reissued in 2004.
To add to your Safari collection we got a pair of Nike Air Assaults, an iconic basketballs shoe of the 80's and 90's. And these Nike Airstabs with a safari print and lime green colourway.
Originally released in 2002, the Nike Air Griffey Max GD II is a favorite among many sneakerheads. They have a leather upper, wraparound visible full-length Max Air unit, hook and loop lace up design, and baseball graphics on the tongue. The Nike Air Griffey Max GD II also sports a fresh design, and they have always been known for their comfort. Simply said, they have it all.
